Mechatronics is the most wide-ranging of the engineering discipline and is applicable to industry, government, environment and society.
Bsc (Hons) Mechatronics Engineering
Mechatronics is the most wide-ranging of the engineering discipline and is applicable to industry, government, environment and society. The manufacturing industry plays a prominent role in Penang’s economy. For this industry to continue to flourish there is a need for more qualified and trained manpower to support automation to ensure the smooth running of the industry. Mechatronics is considered ‘modern mechanical engineering ‘, that it integrates mechanical system with electrical & electronic for better feedback and control into a complete system. In industry 4.0, machines are and robot are connected for better operations, productivity, reliability maintainability; supported by smart system. Mechatronics is the discipline contributes to industrial automation. Graduates of the programme can in a broad area of applications which include industries such as machine tool, automotive, aerospace, power plants and many others. You analyse, test, design, construct, and manage various engineering systems and are involved in the advancement of industries including automotive, aeronautical, robotics, software, manufacturing, semiconductor and building services industries. The structure of the programme provides opportunity for industrial experience and specialisation in the final year. The industrial placement emphasises the relevance of the programme, increases confidence and enhances employment prospects. The idea of this attachment is to enable students to gain first-hand experience in industry as well as an insight to how theories are put into practice in the real engineering situations. This short attachment in industry was beneficial as it provides the intellectual challenge to students especially in the final year and when carrying out their final year project. This Mechatronics programme provides a well-established balance between theory and practical. The curriculum consists of a good mix of general courses in Mechanical and Electrical & Electronic as well as core Mechatronics courses.

Bsc (Hons) Electrical and Electronics Engineering
Electrical and Electronic engineering is at the forefront of developing new technologies for a number of industries including transport, healthcare, construction, and robotics. This engineering discipline is built on the idea of improving systems to help humanity. Smart phones that revolutionized the communication world, sensors and embedded system that is part of “smart homes” and autonomous car wouldn’t have been possible without this engineering field. Nikola Tesla (pioneer of commercial electricity and electromagnetism), Thomas Edison (developer of the light bulb and inventor of the record player), Marcian Hoff (inventor of the microprocessor) and Martin Cooper (inventor of the mobile phone) are some of the inspirational personnel with electrical and electronic background. In industry 4.0, Electrical and Electronic Engineering would be fundamental in connectivity and communication section, human-machine interaction as well as advanced manufacturing since most smart system would rely on numerous sensors for real time analysis. Graduates of the programme can be in a broad area of applications which include industries such as integrated circuit(IC), automotive, aerospace, power plants, telecommunication and many more. You can analyse, test, design, construct, and manage various engineering systems and be involved in the advancement of industries including automotive, aeronautical, robotics, software, manufacturing, semiconductor and building services industries.
